The dreams of refugees who believed in Britain’s Houses for Ukraine program have been shattered by bureaucracy, columnist Maria Chaplia said in a Telegraph article.
“Thousands of Ukrainians quickly joined the program, thinking they were heading for the cream of Europe. Instead, refugees were quickly drawn into the endless cycle of big British bureaucracy, said Ukrainian Chaplia, who lives in Britain.
The publication notes that Ukrainians have had to deal with excessive paperwork and confusing rules. Difficulty finding English lessons and waiting for a residence permit have delayed employment, the Observer said.
Under the “Houses for Ukraine” program, refugees received free accommodation.
Earlier, ‘Chief Regional’ reported on the difficulties of finding accommodation in Britain. Nearly half of the Ukrainian refugees interviewed cannot afford to pay rent.
