New Delhi. Acne-prone skin is a problem that affects millions of people around the world. It is characterized by the presence of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and cysts on the face, chest and back. Acne can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, genetics, stress, and environmental factors.

Although it is a common condition, acne can be frustrating and difficult to manage, often resulting in embarrassment and a negative impact on self-esteem. However, there are several methods you can take to prevent breakouts and improve the overall health and appearance of your acne-prone skin. Here below are the 8 eight safety measures.

Use a gentle cleanser One of the most important steps in managing acne-prone skin is keeping it clean. Choose a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser that’s free of harsh ingredients like sulfates. Wash your face with lukewarm water twice a day, in the morning and before going to bed. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the skin too vigorously.

Moisturize regularly Contrary to popular belief, moisturizing is essential for acne-prone skin. Use a light, oil-free moisturizer that’s designed for oily or acne-prone skin to help keep skin hydrated and prevent it from becoming too dry. Dry skin can lead to overproduction of oil, which can aggravate acne.

Avoid harsh scrubs and exfoliants While exfoliating can help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, using harsh scrubs and exfoliants can irritate the skin and make acne worse. Instead, choose a gentle chemical exfoliant that contains salicylic acid or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) to exfoliate the skin and help prevent breakouts.

Don’t pick or pop pimples Popping or squeezing pimples can be tempting, but can lead to further inflammation and scarring. Instead, apply a spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to the affected area and let it work overnight.

Use non-comedogenic makeup Choose makeup that’s labeled non-comedogenic, which means it’s less likely to clog pores and cause breakouts. Avoid heavy, oil-based foundations and opt for lightweight, mineral-based products instead.

Wash your pillowcases and towels regularly Pillowcases and towels can harbor bacteria and oils, which can contribute to acne. Wash your pillowcases and towels at least once a week to help prevent breakouts.

Be mindful of your diet. While there is no definitive proof that diet causes acne, some studies suggest that certain foods may trigger breakouts in some people. To prevent breakouts, limit your intake of sugar, processed foods and dairy products, and include more fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your diet.

Manage stress Stress can trigger acne and make existing breakouts worse. Practice stress-management techniques such as meditation, yoga or deep breathing exercises to help reduce stress and promote overall well-being.
