New precedent? EU citizens have sued the governments of the organization’s member countries for their inaction in the field of climate protection News

The first case to be heard next Wednesday concerns the health effects of heat waves caused by climate change. The lawsuit is being brought on behalf of thousands of elderly Swiss women against the Swiss government in a six-year legal battle. Also on Wednesday, the court will hear a case brought by Damien Careme, MEP for the French Green Party, who challenges France’s refusal to adopt more ambitious climate measures.

The third case, which will be heard later, concerns six young Portuguese people who condemn the 27 member states of the European Union and several other European states for violating their rights and should take stronger measures to deal with the effects of climate change. . Six other climate cases are pending before the court.
