Difficulties arose in arranging a telephone conversation between Ukrainian and Chinese leaders Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Xi Jinping. This was stated by the adviser to the chief of staff of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak on the airwaves of the national telethon.

According to him, this would be linked to the position of the PRC. Moreover, as Podolyak notes, this situation is caused by the fact that Beijing “has not yet found its new political place”.

“That is, whether he wants to take charge of the issue of a settlement between Russia and Ukraine, or whether he will stay carefully on the sidelines. As I understand it, China has no not yet figured this out for herself, ”says the adviser to the head of Zelenskyyy’s office.

He added that not only the Ukrainian leader’s office, but also the country’s Foreign Ministry were puzzled by the question of organizing a conversation between the heads of the two states.

Earlier on Thursday, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the European Union was optimistic that phone talks between Xi Jinping and Zelenskyyy would take place soon. The Dutch Prime Minister also expressed his belief that the President of the PRC should call first.
