In March, the United States tested a prototype of the AGM-183A hypersonic missile, reports Defense News.
According to reports, the test was carried out by the US Air Force on March 13 and it was the second launch of a prototype of this hypersonic missile.
The report says the missile was launched by a B-52H Stratofortress bomber off the coast of Southern California.
However, the success of the launch is not reported and the US Air Force reported that as a result “some goals” were achieved.
Earlier, a member of the United States House of Representatives, Doug Lambourne, said that the United States does not have “viable capabilities” in the field of hypersonic weapons. Lambourne also noted that so far, no one has the ability to counter hypersonic weapons, which he believes also requires special attention. In this regard, he called for focusing on financing and developing hypersonic weapons.
The United States lags behind Russia and China in the development of hypersonic weapons, where such systems have already been fielded and even used in combat. So, during a special operation in Ukraine, the Russian Aerospace Forces repeatedly used the Kinzhal hypersonic complex.
