Lahore: Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has said that martial law may be imposed in the country due to tensions between Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Addressing the media, the JI chief said that the present PDM government has become a burden on the country. Condemning the government’s attempts to suppress the protests, Sirajul Haq said: Peaceful protest is the constitutional right of every political party.
Sirajul Haq was quoted as saying that the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were running away from the elections, violating the constitution and orders of the Supreme Court. Sirajul Haque said that the caretaker Punjab provincial government is part of the PDM. He said that from their (caretaker government’s) statements it seems that they will stay for a long time. I want to make it clear that this country came into existence through a democratic process and can survive only in a democratic way.
Warning of dire consequences, he announced that he would oppose those who undermined the Constitution, according to reports. Pointing to the duplicity of the ruling coalition, the JI chief said that the PPP and the PML-N were opposing inflation before coming to power. Sirajul Haque said that the lines of free wheat flour are selling death. The Express Tribune reported that five poor people have already died in the race to collect basic necessities. Sirajul Haque alleged that these parties including PPP, PML-N and PTI are not ready to give up their protocols, allowances, luxury cars and mansions.
