In Germany, they will simplify the administrative procedure for people who wish to change sex. Chancellor Scholz’s cabinet of ministers has reached an agreement on this subject. The Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper wrote about his conclusion, citing a source from the SPD faction.
The agreement published by the publication provides that potential non-binary, intersex or transgender people will only have to complete a simple application for a change of sex or name in marital status. Until then, two had to be received. According to this agreement, published by the daily, transgender, intersex and non-binary people will in future have to provide a simple declaration of themselves if they want to change their name. or sex in civil status. At this stage, the procedures are determined by a law from the 1980s, which de facto treats transience as a mental illness: people wishing to change sex must file two psychological reports, and the competent high court decides.
The agreement defines the issue of gender reassignment by minors. For children under 14, only parents or guardians can initiate the procedure. For people over 14 whose parents contest the process, the court will have to decide. The change of sex in the marital status will take effect only after three months. A possible new request for a sex change will only be possible in one year. It should be noted that the government of the Social Democrat, the German Chancellor Scholz, in alliance with the Greens and the Liberals, adopted in November 2022 a vast action plan which provides, among other things, for guaranteeing the rights of minorities in the Constitution. .
