Born will meet with political party leaders, and also intends to resume dialogue with unions on labor issues. The prime minister added that the meetings will begin on April 3 and will last three weeks, AFP reported.

President Emmanuel Macron has ruled out canceling or postponing a reform that would raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. He tasked the prime minister with finding new support in parliament after the government failed to secure enough votes to pass the bill.
When it became clear that the government could not be sure of having the necessary votes, Bourne pushed the bill through the National Assembly without a vote using Article 49.3 of the French constitution. This led to two no-confidence votes, one of which was held by the government by just nine votes, and sparked a furious backlash in the streets.

Elizabeth Bourne, who became Prime Minister in May 2022, has already used Article 49.3 11 times. But on Sunday March 26, she announced that she would no longer use the article of the constitution outside of financial matters.

The protest movements turned into the most important domestic crisis of Macron’s second term. Police and protesters clash regularly in Paris and other cities across the country. Unions have set Tuesday March 28 as the 10th day of nationwide protests against the pensions law, following the most violent clashes with police last Thursday.

The head of one of France’s five largest trade unions, the CFDT, Laurent Berger last week suggested to Macron that the law be suspended for six months to find a possible compromise.
