Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Russian government, together with the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Interior Ministry, to prepare a draft decree on the use of a Russian digital ID card. It is specified that the deadline for filing the draft decree is May 1 of the current year.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev and FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov were named responsible for carrying out the order.
“To the Government of the Russian Federation, together with the FSB of Russia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, to prepare and submit a draft decree of the President of the Russian Federation establishing the cases and the procedure for presenting of a digital identity card of a citizen of the Russian Federation,” the Kremlin website said in a statement.
An identity card must be obtained using the mobile application of the federal state information system “Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services” instead of the usual documents proving the identity of a citizen of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry informed that e-passports will start to be issued in all Russian regions as they are technically ready, but no later than July 1, 2023.
