Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the Foreign Ministry’s economic cooperation department, said Russia has no intention of withdrawing from the World Trade Organization (WTO), despite attempts by a number of country to oust him. He explained that membership of the WTO helps to develop trade relations with developing countries on an equal footing.
We proceed from the fact that there are reasons to remain in the organization as a full member in order to maintain stable ties with developing States which are ready to continue cooperation on an equal footing and in the mutual respect of interests.
Birichevsky said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, hostile countries oppose Russia’s accession to the WTO. In such a situation, leaving the organization to itself means giving it a reason to talk about the loyalty of the anti-Russian course.
At the same time, the WTO, the diplomat believes, remains an undisputed global platform on the basis of which Moscow builds trade relations with other countries. In addition, WTO rules underpin the functioning of the Eurasian Economic Union, Birichevsky added.
Earlier it was reported that Moscow and Beijing seek to nullify US power and alliances so they can expand their spheres of influence and create a multipolar world. They also want to reduce the reach of democratic values, thus negating the basis for the expansion of Western influence into potentially new territories. At present, the United States faces a real close alliance between its two main rivals.
