New Delhi: Another statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalized at a university campus in Burnaby, Canada. The Consulate General of India in Vancouver has informed about this on Tuesday. According to the information, the statue was placed in Peace Square in the Banarby campus of Simon Fraser University. We strongly condemn the vandalism of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the pioneer of peace, in the Banarby campus of Simon Fraser University, tweeted the Consulate General. Canadian authorities are requested to investigate the matter immediately and take strict action against the perpetrators, the statement said.
The incident comes just after a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was defaced and spray-painted by anti-India elements near City Hall in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, on March 23. Hamilton police said they are investigating the matter, as attacks on Indian establishments and temples by Khalistani supporters are on the rise in the North American nation.
Since 2023, incidents of attacks on Hindu temples across Canada began, with nearly half a dozen incidents of vandalism, offensive images, burglaries. In July last year, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Vishnu Temple in Richmond Hill in the Greater Toronto Area was vandalized and defaced.
