The International Olympic Committee has not made a final decision on the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This was announced at a press conference by IOC chief Thomas Bach.

The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee has recommended allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under a neutral flag. However, this only applies to individual sports, as well as those that do not support the military operation in Ukraine and are not associated with the Russian military.

The IOC also said that sports federations should take into account athletes’ public statements, their participation in rallies and the presence or absence of symbols in support of the special operation in Ukraine when deciding whether to join. competition.

Teams from Russia and Belarus continue to offer not to be considered as participants in international competitions. The same applies to athletes associated with the Russian armed forces and security agencies, including the restriction may apply to athletes who are members of the CSKA sports society and represent the National Guard.

“We cannot find a solution that suits everyone. We may have to live with that. estimate Bach RIA Novosti.

The question of the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the Paris Olympics in 2024 was not raised, it will be examined at another meeting of the executive committee, said Thomas Bach.

In February 2022, the IOC recommended banning Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international tournaments. At the beginning of 2023, the question of allowing them under a neutral flag was raised. The reason for this was the statement of the UN special rapporteurs on human rights, who were concerned about possible discrimination against athletes. However, the governments of more than 30 countries disagreed with the admission of Russians and Belarusians and also criticized the concept of their possible neutral status.
