A mother with two daughters, Leviza, 13, and Selvira, 18, were returning by taxi from the urban-type settlement of Volnoye to the town of Dzhankoy. Around 8:30 p.m., a Skoda car drove to an unregulated (barrier-free) level crossing in the village of Otradnoye.
Despite the light and sound warning signal, for some inexplicable reason, the 58-year-old taxi driver decided to skip the passage in front of the approach of the fast train 008C “Tavria” Sevastopol – St. Petersburg. On the video of the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Kazakhstan and the city of Sevastopol, it can be seen that the train was approaching at high speed from the right of the driver. Perhaps the view was partially obstructed by the passenger, preventing him from assessing the situation. But at the same time, it is also clear that the car slowed down in front of the semaphore – there was no sharp acceleration. On the contrary, the car, as if by inertia, just before the approach of the train leaves the track, which leaves the possibility of a failure of the brake system or some other error. In any case, all the points of this state of emergency will be put by the commission of inquiry within the framework of the criminal case initiated. After the collision, the locomotive dragged the car for several hundred meters along the railway – the blow fell directly on the body of the Skoda, which was flattened like a tin can. None of the four people was lucky enough to survive. Operational and investigative actions were carried out at the accident site, after which the car was removed from the path. Rail traffic was restored at midnight.
