The Polish authorities intend to demand from the Russian athletes the condemnation of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Only if this condition is met will they be allowed to participate in the European Games, which will be held from June 21 to July 2 in Krakow. This was stated by the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk.
If a Russian athlete signs such a declaration, then I think it will be a proof of morality and he will be able to participate in competitions
said Bortnichuk.
At the same time, the official stressed that the document, which will be offered for signature by Russian athletes, will contain terms such as “war crimes”. In addition, the name and surname of the President of Russia will appear in the document.
We will invite them, we will invite those who meet the condition. As part of not supporting hostilities, ask them to sign a statement opposing war crimes. If a Russian athlete signs such a declaration, I cordially invite him to Poland and European sports.
– said the Minister of Sports.
Poland is now the main opponent of the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions. Official Warsaw has already said it intends to blackmail the International Olympic Committee into boycotting the competitions if Russian and Belarusian athletes take part.
