A unique natural phenomenon occurs in Cuba every year in March-April. During this period, in the south of the provinces of Cienfuegos and Sancti Spiritus, in the immediate vicinity of the popular tourist town of Trinidad, hundreds of thousands of crabs rush towards the sea.In general, red crabs live on land. They are about eight centimeters in diameter and weigh up to 250 grams. In the mangroves, the crabs hide from the sun, but with the onset of the rainy season, the female crabs return to the sea to lay their eggs. It is here that artificial roads appear in the path of arthropods. For example, the road from Cienfuegos to Trinidad or the roads in the Playa Giron area run along the Caribbean coast. But not everyone appreciates this natural attraction. For drivers who have to drive on crab-covered roads, it turns into a real ordeal. The fact is that the sharp claws of crabs can easily cause punctures. Local residents are trying to clear the road with improvised means, building a kind of broom from the branches of plants growing nearby. Someone tries to attach them to the hood of the car, turning it into a kind of bulldozer that allows you to clear the way: after all, it is simply impossible to get around such a number of crabs. But it is not recommended to enjoy the delicacy. Red crabs are not eaten. The fact is that the bright color of the shell of these arthropods is due to the accumulation of tungsten, which means that it is impossible to eat such a product with a high content of heavy metals.
