CNN: Macron thinks only China can “change the game” in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron visits China as Paris believes only Beijing can “change the rules of the game” in Ukraine. This is reported by CNN, citing a source in the office of the French president.
“Clearly, China is one of the few countries on Earth – perhaps the only country in the world – that has a ‘revolutionary’ influence on the conflict for both sides,” the source said.
Macron will fly to China on Wednesday, his first meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in three years since Chinese authorities quarantined themselves due to strict anti-COVID measures.
The French leader will meet Xi as well as Chinese Premier Li Qiang. According to the source, Macron wants to find a space for useful initiatives in Kiev, as well as a way to end the Ukrainian conflict in the medium term.
Together with Macron, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will visit China. It is expected that the expansion of cooperation between China and the EU will also be on the agenda of discussions with the Chinese authorities.
