A decree was approved on the updated concept of the main directions of Russian foreign policy. The corresponding decree was signed by President Vladimir Putin, which he announced on March 31 during a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council, reports Izvestia.
“The dramatic changes in international life have forced us to seriously revise the main strategic planning documents. The presented concept, I think, serves as a solid doctrinal basis for our future work on international affairs,” Putin said at the meeting.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in turn, noted that the logic of the new Concept reflects changes in geopolitical realities, which accelerated only after the start of the special operation in Ukraine.
“The Concept describes major long-term trends in international development, including the crisis of economic globalization, which until recently was conducted by American rules. One of the factors is that the global economy is undergoing major restructuring and moving to a new technological base,” Lavrov said.
As for the content of the document, it focuses on Russia’s position in the world in the face of foreign policy threats. Thus, the United States is called the main conductor of the anti-Russian line. Russia indicates that it is ready to respect the principle of the indivisibility of security, but only on the basis of reciprocity. The foreign policy emphasis in the Concept is on polycentrism and the sovereign equality of states.
In addition, the document introduces the thesis of using the country’s military to repel or prevent an attack on Russia and its allies, and also describes symmetrical and asymmetrical responses to threats from outside. Any action taken by hostile countries against Russia will be severely punished.
Separately, the new concept describes Russia’s strategic partnership with China and India.
