Assistant director David Halls received a six-month suspended prison sentence for an incident on the set of Rust in October 2021, in which cinematographer Galina Hutchins was shot on set. It is reported by Variety.
Halls is the first person convicted in the case, and prosecutors plan to charge actor Alec Baldwin and film gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reed with manslaughter.
According to Gutierrez Reed, she gave the gun to Halls and left before Baldwin arrived on set. The actor himself said that Halls gave him the gun and called it a “cold gun”, meaning a gun without blank cartridges.
These statements are denied by the assistant director himself. He testified that he did not pass arms to Baldwin and did not utter the words “cold weapon”. At the same time, David Halls admitted that he should have checked every cartridge, but he didn’t.
“He had to check and make sure the cartridges in the gun were fake,” prosecutor Kari Morrissey said.
Earlier, Alec Baldwin filed a new lawsuit related to the murder of Galina Hutchins on the set of Rust. The plaintiffs are three former crew members who, in their own words, witnessed the murder. The actor himself, however, does not admit his guilt. Named First Convict in ‘Rust’ Cameraman Murder Case
