On April 1, the exhibition “Numismatic Rarities of the Tver Museum” began its work in the exhibition hall of the Tver Life Museum. Among the exhibits are extremely rare, even unique, numismatic coins known in only one copy.
At the exhibition you can also see objects that belonged to famous inhabitants of the Upper Volga region, unique shopping complexes, monuments with an interesting fate and an amazing history of entering the museum.
The exhibition is dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the publication of the Description of the Tver Museum in 1888 by AK Zhiznevsky, which became the first edition of the state numismatic collection in Russia.
At the end of the 19th century, a solid numismatic collection was built up in the Museum of Local Lore in Tver – more than 50,000 copies. The collection includes national and foreign coins and bonds, monetary substitutes, awards, official signs, various monuments of faleristics, sphragistics and philately, as well as 59 monetary and monetary treasures. The total dating of collectibles covers more than 2 thousand years. It includes many rare and even unique monuments, which have become the centerpieces of the exhibition.
