Washington: Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that he will not run for the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election. Pompeo told that he does not want to compete with former President and his close Donald Trump in the race to become the Republican Party’s candidate.
Pompeo was the US Secretary of State during Trump’s tenure. If Pompeo were to run for the nomination, he would be only the second member of the previous Trump cabinet to do so after Nikki Haley. Haley, who was the US ambassador to the United Nations, had announced in February to join the race to become the Republican presidential candidate. Mike Pence, who was the Vice President during Trump’s tenure, is also considering joining the race.
