Three-time Russian handball champion Victoria Divak dies in Astrakhan aged 29

Russian handball player, three-time Russian champion and master of sports Victoria Divak died in Astrakhan at the age of 30, informed Russian Handball Federation on its official website, expressing condolences to the girl’s family and friends.

On the afternoon of April 17, the athlete fell out of the window of an apartment on the eighth floor, informed “Notebook Astrakhan” with reference to its source. According to the publication, the press service of the ICR investigative committee for the Astrakhan region has data on the fall of a girl from the window of the eighth floor of an apartment building No. 10 on Sofia Street Perovskaya. The ministry declined to name the deceased, adding only that it was investigating her death.

Ministry of Sports of the Astrakhan region published news of Divak’s death on his VKontakte page. I could not get a comment on the incident from the representative of the “Notebook Astrakhan” department.

Victoria Divak was born into a sports family: her father Viktor Divak was a footballer, he played for Rotor (Volgograd) and Torpedo (Volzhsky). Victoria grew up at the Volgograd handball school, began her sports career at Dynamo-Sinara and won the Russian championship three times with this team. Then the girl played for Kuban, the German club Halle Neustadt, the French team Achenheim Truchtersheim and the Belarusian Gomel.

Because of the athlete – a gold medal in the Belarusian championship, two Belarusian Cups and a victory in the second national league of France. Playing for the Russian junior national handball team, Victoria in 2009 became the winner of the European Championship.

Since 2021, Divak has been the leader of Astrakhanochka. She played her last game for the team on April 2 against the Rostov-Don club: it was a group stage game of the Super League of the Russian Handball Championship, which took place in Rostov .
