American actor Matthew Perry says he went too far in his biography when he brought up fellow actor Keanu Reeves.
In two places in the hero’s biography, Reeves’ name appears, but in an unfortunately amusing context.
“It always seems like talented people die first,” he said, quoting actors River Phoenix and Heath Ledger, who died young after battling addiction. “But Keanu Reeves still walks among us,” he said in his book.
Elsewhere in the book, he discussed the death of comedian Chris Farley and how he reacted upon learning of his death. “I walked across the road into Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room,” he said, again noting that Keanu Reeves was alive.
Matthew Perry was among the speakers at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on Saturday, where he said those comments would be removed from the next printing of the biography.
“What I said was dumb and stupid. I publicly apologized to him and the next copy will not be named after him,” he said, but noted that he did not apologize to of Reeves himself.
“But if I meet him, I will.” It was stupid.”
