How Israel celebrated the country’s 75th anniversary and what came before it

Celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the country were held in Israel. The celebrations began Wednesday after sunset.

The State of Israel was proclaimed on May 14, 1948 (5th Iyar according to the Jewish calendar). If the 5th of Yair falls on a Friday and a Saturday, the party is postponed to the following Thursday. This year, as part of the anniversary date, Independence Day will be celebrated particularly widely. Independence Day is traditionally preceded by Yom HaZikaron – the day of remembrance for Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism.

A special place in the celebrations is occupied by the national flag of the country. For most Jews, the flag of Israel has always had a special meaning. From the earliest days of the country’s existence, the white and blue flag united the nation that survived the tragedy of the Holocaust.

The “Star of David” flag has gained relevance in recent months, as supporters and opponents of judicial reform led by Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet have taken their actions under the national banner.

And now, across the country, days before the celebrations began, State of Israel flags were hung everywhere. Citizens placed the national symbol on cars and in the windows of houses, the flag can be seen in shop windows and small shops. Russian media collected photographic evidence of the atmosphere in which Israel prepared to celebrate its anniversary and how the country celebrated Independence Day.
