Mumbai Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that explosive Mumbai Indians batsman Tim David Tim can fill the void left by retired Kieron Pollard in this franchise.
Pollard joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 and played a key role in making this team a five-time champion. Pollard, who scored 3412 runs in 171 innings of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at a strike rate of 147.32, played several match-winning innings for Mumbai, but his poor form in 2022 became a major headache for the team.
IPL 2022 proved to be Pollard’s last season as a player in Mumbai, though the team has got a new finisher in David. David played a 14-ball 45 with two fours and five sixes against Rajasthan on Sunday. . Chasing a target of 213, Mumbai needed 17 runs in the last over and David hit three sixes in three balls to give Mumbai the win.
Manjrekar said on a program of Star Sports, the patience shown by Tim David was amazing. He was being seen as an alternative to Pollard and he did that. His match winning performance makes him better than others. Before David, the spectators who came to Wankhede Stadium got to see the explosive century innings of Yashasvi Jaiswal of Royals. Jaiswal scored an inning of 124 off 62 balls with the help of 16 fours and eight sixes, although his effort could not win the team.
Former Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh said that Jaiswal’s innings will open doors of immense possibilities for him. Harbhajan said, this century has opened many doors for Yashasvi Jaiswal. He is a match winning player. He has got all kinds of shots and most importantly he is a spirited player. Indian cricket is flourishing because of players like Jaiswal.
