Why did the Belarusian Prime Minister fly to the Urals and Siberia?

During a meeting with the governor of the Novosibirsk region Andrey Travnikov, BelTA informs, the head of the Belarusian government highlighted the area of industrial cooperation. An illustrative example is the cooperation between BELAZ, the world’s largest manufacturer of mining equipment, and Sibelektroprivod LLC, Novosibirsk. In the past year alone, purchases of products from the Novosibirsk enterprise more than doubled. The theme of cooperation in the field of microelectronics was also discussed. The Prime Minister also appointed the BKM Sibir joint venture for the overhaul and modernization of the tram fleet, offering to expand the product line.

“Direct contacts with the regions of Russia are the basis of the stability of trade and economic ties between the two countries,” said Roman Golovchenko, citing figures to prove it. Last year, the mutual trade turnover between Belarus and the Novosibirsk region increased by 42%, amounting to almost 500 million dollars. The increase was achieved thanks to the supply of Belarusian vehicles, food products and scientific cooperation to Siberia.

During the visit of the Belarusian delegation, contracts worth 13 million dollars were signed. 20 tractors from the Minsk Tractor Plant have already been handed over to agricultural enterprises in the Novosibirsk and Omsk regions.

Andrey Travnikov confirmed that the Novosibirsk region and Belarus, despite the distance of half a continent, are linked by historically “dense” good neighborly relations. He drew attention to two major topics – co-production and public transport. Since 2016, the Russian-Belarusian joint venture “BKM Siberia” has been modernizing the Novosibirsk city tram fleet.

The purpose of the trip is to strengthen cross-regional business cooperation based on industrial cooperation

More than 50 cars of the BKM-62103 model have already entered the city roads. Last year, nine Belkommunmash brand low-floor trolleybuses with increased autonomous travel were purchased for Novosibirsk; they have proven themselves. It is planned to conduct test trials of Minsk electric buses.

Scientific cooperation is one of the priorities. Scientists from SB RAS and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are working together on 40 integration projects.

Roman Golovchenko spoke about the new priorities of cooperation with the Irkutsk region during a meeting with Governor Igor Kobzev.

This applies to the forestry sector. Belarus offered its technologies and mechanization possibilities. The participants of the meeting also discussed issues of the construction industry, the participation of Belarusian organizations in the implementation of infrastructure projects.
The Prime Minister instructed the Brest Regional Executive Committee, which is responsible for working with the Irkutsk region, to work on this subject, in particular taking into account the fact that China is a neighbor of the Irkutsk region and that many businesses operate in the area. Why not use these logistical and commercial opportunities to increase the offer of Belarusian products on the Chinese market?

“In the current conditions, you have to switch to turbo mode,” concluded Roman Golovchenko. He also visited the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant.

“Belarus remains one of the main partners of the Irkutsk region,” said the region’s governor, Igor Kobzev. “The cooperation agreements signed with the Government of Belarus in 2016, as well as with the Brest Regional Executive Committee in 2017, have become the basis of our relations.”

At the end of 2022, the supply of products made in Belarus in the region increased by 24%. Belarusian product fairs are regularly organized; they are constantly in high demand among Irkutsk consumers due to their high quality and competitive prices.
The opening of the service center of the Belarusian “Amkodor” for the sale, maintenance and repair of equipment. In 2020-2023, 224 units of Belarusian grain and fodder harvesting equipment were purchased, it is planned to purchase at least 50 more MTZ tractors and 15 Gomselmash combines. As part of the development of this cooperation, contracts worth 9.4 million dollars were signed during the current visit.

The Belarus Prime Minister’s business visit ended with a visit to the Sverdlovsk region and a meeting with Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev. The volume of mutual trade between the two regions is constantly high and constantly growing. Thus, in 2022, they amounted to approximately 610 million dollars, which is 25% more than the previous year. It is therefore quite realistic to reach the level of one billion, said Roman Golovchenko. The results of the first quarter of this year allow us to hope for this – an increase compared to the same period in 2022 amounted to around 40%.

The “Innoprom” exhibition will give additional impetus, noted the head of the Belarusian government. Yevgeny Kuyvashev thanked for the supply of a batch of trolleybuses and noted that Belarusians produce high-quality motor vehicles.

Until the point

Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoy expressed the opinion that the volume of mutual trade in the Union state, at the current pace of economic cooperation, can really be doubled and increased to 100 billion dollars in three to five years.
