Olga Shchetinina, First Deputy Speaker of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Legislative Assembly, shared her expectations:
- I hope that in September here in the Zelvensky region there will be a real holiday of our brother peoples. This will not only strengthen friendly and cultural ties, but also open up opportunities to create new socio-economic relationships. Nizhny Novgorod region is a large region with more than three million inhabitants. In Russia, the region is called the capital of artistic craftsmanship, the preservation of cultural heritage is one of our main tasks. Nizhny Novgorod itself can be called the industrial center of the country. In the future, Belarusian-Russian joint ventures may also be created.
Close cooperation between the Belarusian region and the Nizhny Novgorod region is implemented within the framework of the partnership alliance of the five districts of the Grodno region for sustainable development. Colleagues from Nizhny Novgorod were interested in this format, the Belarusian experience was presented in Nizhny Novgorod. The II Congress of Small Towns of the two regions is supposed to be devoted to the implementation of youth policy, the development of cultural and educational traditions, the creation of employment conditions for the rural population and the development of the sector agricultural. Chairman of the Standing Committee on State Building, Local Self-Government and Internal Regulations of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Valentin Semenyako, who also participated in the current meeting, notes :
- Since our country is under pressure from sanctions, the priority area for economic cooperation is Russia. For more than two years, we have been actively establishing ties with the Nizhny Novgorod region, implementing joint projects. It is very important that the voice of the regions is heard, because one of the main theses of the Sixth All-Belarusian People’s Assembly goes like this: a strong region is a strong country.
The guests also visited a number of rural settlements in the Zelvenshchina. The Russians were interested in approaches to putting things in order, updating infrastructure.
