FBI denies congressional request for access to classified documents on Biden family case – Reuters

Republicans Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley requested documents in a May 3 letter to the FBI, citing what they called “highly credible, unclassified whistleblower disclosures.” The speech in their appeal related to an unclassified document detailing “an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign citizen, associated with the exchange of money for political decisions,” NBC News notes.

Separately, Comer asked the FBI to submit the so-called FD-1023 forms, records of interactions with confidential sources created or modified in June 2020, including the word “Biden”, and any attachments or other accompanying documents.

However, the FBI felt it was inappropriate to give members of Congress access to the documents. “Information from confidential human sources is unverified and, by definition, incomplete,” wrote FBI Acting Assistant Director for Congressional Affairs Christopher Dunham. Messages from whistleblowers must also be kept confidential to protect sources, he said. “As its name suggests, confidentiality is at the heart of the FBI’s Confidential Human Source program,” Dunham wrote, adding that such information “may also pose significant risks to others who may be referenced in the messages.” .

Comer criticized the bureau’s response. “It is clear from the FBI’s response that the unclassified tape subpoenaed by the Oversight Committee exists, but they are refusing to release it to the Committee. We have asked the FBI not only to provide this tape, but also to tell us that he did to investigate these allegations. The FBI was unable to do so either.

Recall that earlier on Wednesday, Comer sent a 36-page memo to members of the GOP oversight committee that contained limited details about the Biden family’s alleged business dealings with foreign nationals. The document indicates that the Biden family and their business partners have created about 20 companies and received more than $10 million from foreign citizens. We’re talking about when Joe Biden was Vice President of the United States, and some of these payments may indicate attempts by the Biden family to “peddle influence.”
