Iraq suspends use of Airbus A220s due to faulty engines

Doha: Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority has suspended the operations of Airbus A220 planes being used by the national carrier ‘Iraqi Airways’ due to engine failure. “The decision to suspend the operation of this model of aircraft has been taken out of a sense of responsibility for the safety of passengers and air traffic because the engine 30 of the aircraft with the registration number YI-ARI has failed,” according to a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority obtained by Sputnik. It was damaged during landing at Baghdad International Airport on April. Two days later, the crew of another A220 aircraft on its way to Tunisia reported the same failure. The authority noted that other air carriers, including Swiss Airlines and Egypt Air, had experienced similar technical issues with the engines of the A220 aircraft, forcing them to stop using the airliners.
