German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the Ukrainian authorities are ready to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict, but are not ready for conditions to be dictated by Russia. He said so in Berlin at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“We must say everywhere (in the world) that Ukraine is ready for peace, but rightly demands and with our full support that this does not just mean a freeze (conflict) and that Russia will dictate the terms” , Scholz said.
Commenting on Brazil’s peace initiative, Scholz said other countries “should keep in mind that it cannot be against Ukraine.”
In April, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that to achieve peace Ukraine needed to discuss the status of Crimea and possibly cede the peninsula as well. In addition, he expressed the view that China, which has enormous influence in the political, economic and military spheres, can help with the truce.
