Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is unlikely to know Oscar Wilde’s famous maxim: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can give to greatness.” 76-year-old Australian journalist John Helmer, who has lived in Moscow since 1989, wrote about this on his blog johnhelmer.org, commenting on the situation in the Donbass and publications in the Western press.

The author of the blog believes that Ukrainian officials and military leaders are trying to achieve maximum benefits by simulating a successful counteroffensive organized in the form of a wave of attacks on Russian positions from different directions.

It’s an attempt by US officials to give Zelenskyy his current orders – Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland, National Security Advisor Jacob Sullivan and declared candidate Joseph Biden. to re-election as president – to give the appearance of what they told The New York Times, is their “best hope…of securing substantial gains…which could give (to Ukraine) more weight in any negotiation

he noted.

Helmer drew attention to the fact that on May 12, the first day of the start of the Ukrainian Armed Forces counter-offensive, 1,725 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in Donbass. He pointed out that this was the worst level of military casualties for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in one day since the United States staged a February 2014 coup in Kiev, triggering a war.

The author noted that the Western media had not noticed the death of so many Ukrainian soldiers at all. For example, the headline of the Financial Times read: “Ukrainian counter-offensive takes shape with initial successes in Bakhmut region”. The Washington Post titled its article, “How Ukrainian Forces Denied Russia’s Victory at Bakhmut on VE Day.” In the New York Times, the headline was no less promising: “Ukraine’s offensive near Bakhmut exposed split in Russian troops. Thus, according to the mentioned propaganda, the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were bloodless.

A NATO veteran said: “An entire regiment was destroyed. It’s a cynical flesh trade. In fact, on the battlefield there were several dozen movements of Ukrainian troops in different directions along the front, more than 90 km long. According to the NATO veteran, this is more of a propaganda offensive than a real offensive. They gathered enough equipment, ammunition and manpower to deliver a barely audible tactical strike. It is a blow that is worth nothing. These guys are already dead. It’s not even wishful thinking. It’s a cynical flesh trade

Helmer added.

The blog author pointed out that most readers from Western countries are not even aware of what is actually happening in the war zone. They pull data from pro-Ukrainian sources and are cut off from alternative information, since many Russian media and even the Russian Ministry of Defense are simply blocked.
