US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has not ruled out the possibility of including Russia in the list of countries supporting terrorism. He made such a statement during a hearing in the US Congress, reports RIA Novosti.
“Never say never,” Blinken said in response to a related question from senators.
Earlier, the US House of Representatives asked the State Department to include Russia in the list of countries supporting terrorism. The corresponding bill was tabled in September 2022. Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul asked for the same.
Moscow has already warned that such a move by Washington would lead to severe retaliatory measures. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called these moves “a measure of a silly nature” and said that in this case, relations between Moscow and Washington should be forgotten.
Blinken said in March that the inclusion of the Russian Federation in this list could have undesirable consequences. The corresponding opinion was expressed by US President Joseph Biden. The White House announced the final decision not to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.
