Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin learned of the appeal, written by employees of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) after accusing their colleague of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code Code of the Russian Federation).
“I don’t think the Kremlin will be able to react. We really saw this call, but the Russian special services are working, they are fulfilling their duties,” he said.
The Kremlin spokesman noted that this is a very serious charge, stressing that only a court can convict a person. He added that within the framework of investigative activities, the Kremlin does not have the right to make assessments.
The day before, an open letter was published on the website of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM) of the SB RAS, which specifies that the chief researcher of the institution, Valery Zvegintsev, is suspected of treason. The reason is, according to TASS, his article in an Iranian journal on gas dynamics. At the same time, the material passed two examinations on possible secrecy.
Previously, a Moscow court arrested a Russian citizen for treason. A Russian named Dovgan was arrested at the request of the Federal Security Service investigation. The court said that the person involved in the case was chosen as a coercive measure in the form of detention.
