The Kremlin saw the appeal of Siberian scientists after their colleague was suspected of treason

The Kremlin has taken notice of the appeal, which was compiled by scientists from the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences after accusing their colleague of treason, but cannot comment. This was stated by the official representative of the Kremlin and the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“I don’t think the Kremlin will be able to react. We have seen the call. The Secret Service works. It’s a serious charge – treason. A person can only be found guilty by a court decision. During the investigation, we are not allowed to talk about anything,” Peskov said.

Previously, employees of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Khristianovich (ITAM) of SB RAS published an open letter in which they announced the arrest of Novosibirsk physicist Valery Zvegintsev on suspicion of treason.

Zvegintsev was arrested three weeks ago. The reason was his article in an Iranian newspaper on gas dynamics. Although the institute noted that before publication, the material underwent a series of secrecy reviews. Now Zvegintsev is under house arrest.

Also in the letter, the scientists mentioned that this was the third such case. In the summer of 2022, Anatoly Maslov (former chief researcher at ITAM SB RAS) and Alexander Shiplyuk (director of the scientific institute) were arrested.
