After “Storm Shadow”… Great Britain delivers the “Desert Cannon” to Ukraine

– Published on:

British Deputy Defense Secretary James Heppey said Britain had delivered the AS-90 self-propelled guns, along with armored personnel carriers and armored personnel carriers, to Ukraine, according to what has been published on the UK Parliament’s website.

According to Hebe, Ukraine received Challenger 2 tanks, AS90 guns, Bulldog, Spartan, Stormer, M113 armored personnel carriers, as well as Wolfhound and Mastiff Husky and FV104 armored personnel carriers.

The British army uses AS-90 self-propelled guns as a replacement for the American M109 howitzer, according to the Military Factory website, which confirmed that Britain has produced 179 such guns for its army and represents an important source of direct income and indirect fire.

What are the capabilities of the “AS90”?

Length: 9 meters, width: 3.5 meters, height: 2.49 meters, weight: 45 tons, speed: 55 kilometers per hour, range: 370 kilometers, crew: 5

What is the “AS90” weapon?

155mm main gun with 48 rounds, 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun with 1,000 rounds, smoke grenade launcher. Firing range: 27 to 40 kilometers Type of reconstruction: automatic Maximum rate of fire: 6 rounds per minute, for three minutes Continuous rate of fire: two rounds per minute Storage capacity 48 shells

The AS-90 cannon was developed in the 1980s and introduced in the 1990s. It turned out to be an excellent weapon. It was equipped with tubes with a diameter of 155 mm, but its age became obsolete after several successive upgrades, in particular under acceptable conditions. ammunition types and scanning.

And the British media reported that London would be forced to look for a way to replenish its stockpile of heavy weapons from the “AS-90” guns.

The Military Watch site indicates that the British army is suffering from a breakdown of the AS 90 guns in its stores.

The donation of all units to the Ukrainian army calls into question the future of the artillery regiments in service. Two Royal Artillery regiments were stripped of serviceable guns

Weapons Proving Ground

For his part, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Thursday that the West’s actions of turning some countries into weapons testing grounds and including other countries in NATO are putting the world on the brink of a global conflict.

Lukashenko added: “Individual countries have become a testing ground for destroying old Western weapons and testing new ones.”

Belarusian agency “Belta” quoted Lukashenko as saying: “Such actions put the world on the brink of a global conflict.”

Military expert Mike Jacobson has commented that this is a ‘war of attrition’, as this aid will allow Ukraine to halt the advances of the Russians, thanks to the more precise and longer-range equipment provided by his allies.

I think stronger artillery would reduce the Russians’ ability to continue the war. The West is focused on supplying Ukraine with artillery and suicide planes that fly for hours to hit Russian targets. No one can be sure that these weapons will allow the Ukrainians to completely expel the Russians from their lands. The artillery battle will force Russia to escalate the conflict or negotiate, but Moscow will be angry but not defeated, according to Agence France-Presse.

Russian military expert Vladimir Igor told Sky News Arabia that Britain’s dispatch of ‘Storm Shadow’ missiles and then AS-90 guns means London is entering a new phase of escalation against Russia in Ukraine.

Moscow will respond with a similar escalation. Washington and London are responsible for this escalation. Great Britain is more interested than Kyiv itself or than Poland in this war. The Washington-London-Warsaw-Kyiv axis involved Ukraine. Recognition by all of the Minsk agreements can end the war through negotiations.

And British military expert Michael Clarke says: “With changing patterns of warfare and technological developments, the replacement of British howitzers is an opportunity to reactivate the British Armed Forces amid military budget cuts.”

He added to “Sky News Arabia” that the 155mm guns, including the “AS 90”, have very modest ranges, but are compatible with ammunition held by all NATO countries.
