The 15th BRICS Academic Forum was held in Cape Town, South Africa from 14 to 17 May. This is the first large-scale offline forum organized by a BRICS think tank, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. About 100 experts and scholars from the five BRICS countries, African diplomats in South Africa, teachers and students from South African universities, and officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Africa participated in the Forum.
The Forum aims to develop a fair and just partnership, build a free trade area between BRICS and the African continent, promote social and economic reform and multilateralism in the post-pandemic era, strengthen the status of women, and promote sustainable development. Issues such as promotion have been discussed. Participating experts generally agree that Africa is the continent with the most developing countries, and cooperation with African countries to achieve high-quality development will play an important role in building the BRICS organizational mechanism and promoting the reform of the global governance system.
