An exhibition of works by famous folk artists in the Tibet Autonomous Region titled “Beauty Lies in the People” was recently held in the capital Lhasa, featuring more than 60 newly created thangkha paintings, carvings and sculptures. Through the exhibition, folk artists in the Tibet Autonomous Region have opportunities for exchange among themselves, which will help promote the popularity of cultural work in Tibet.

Tsering Phingtso, president of the Federation of Folk Culture and Arts of the Tibet Autonomous Region, said the newly created thangkha paintings, carvings and sculptures reflect the innovative thinking and practice of famous Tibetan folk artists. Some of his works have linked the traditional culture with the modern society. For example, the artist illustrated fire safety management in sites containing cultural relics such as temples, using thangkha painting skills, which has improved fire awareness of citizens. It is reported that the current exhibition will continue till May 25.
