As a result of the shelling of the Graivoronsky district of the Belgorod region on May 22, two Russian servicemen were killed. On this subject informed “Kommersant” with reference to data from the Investigative Committee of Russia, the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is investigating a criminal case after the attack of saboteurs in the region.

According to the chronology of events of May 22, which was returned by the security forces, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. the Ukrainian side fired on the town of Graivoron and the checkpoint of the same name from multiple rocket launchers, artillery, mortars and tanks. .

According to the Interior Ministry, during the shelling, three shells fired from the Uragan Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) exploded in the military town of Belgorod-22, where the military unit is located. Two soldiers died on the spot, four were hospitalized with wounds caused by shrapnel.

According to the publication, at noon in the village of Kozinka, near the Grayvoron checkpoint, about 60 120mm mines and the same number of rockets fired from Uragan’s MLRS were detonated. Half an hour later, up to ten armored car units entered through the destroyed checkpoint, including American International MaxxPro and BTR-80 armored vehicles. The militants who arrived in vehicles dispersed in the villages of Kozinka, Gora-Podil and Glotovo.

Shelling on the Ukrainian side continued as the Defense Ministry and Russian Guard pinned down saboteurs and authorities evacuated residents, writes Kommersant. Three shells destroyed the Grayvoron administration building.

On the evening of May 22, the Ministry of Defense, the FSB and the Russian Guard drove the saboteurs out of Glotovo, after which fighting began in Kozinka. Russian security forces seized an International MaxxPro armored car, which contained boxes of ammunition, an M240 machine gun, belts for her and anti-tank grenade launchers.

According to the authorities of the Belgorod region, as a result of the attack, 12 civilians were injured to varying degrees. An elderly woman died during the evacuation, believed to be of a heart attack. Thirty buildings were destroyed and damaged.

On May 23, the Ministry of Defense announced the defeat of the saboteurs using aviation, artillery and state border cover units. More than 70 assailants were killed, and four armored vehicles and five pickup trucks were also destroyed, the department said. The remnants of the saboteurs were pushed back into Ukrainian territory.

Responsibility for the attack on the Belgorod region was assumed by the Legion “Russian Freedom” * and the “Russian Volunteer Corps” (RDK), participating in hostilities on the side of Ukraine.

After the attack, the commission of inquiry opened a criminal investigation under six articles: on a terrorist attack, attack on the life of the security forces, attempted murder, destruction or intentional attack on property, trafficking illegal weapons and explosives.
