Iran has successfully tested a ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers, Iranian media reported.
It came two days after Israel’s military commander raised the prospect of “action” against Tehran over its nuclear program.
Iran, which is developing one of the largest missile programs in the Middle East, said its weapons are capable of reaching Israeli and US bases in the region.
Despite opposition from the United States and European countries, Tehran said it would continue to develop its “defensive” missile program.
“Our message to Israel’s enemies is that we will defend the country and its achievements. Our message to friends is that we want to promote regional stability,” Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad-Reza Ashtiani said.
State television broadcast footage it said showed an upgraded version of Iran’s Khorramshahr-4 ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers and capable of carrying a 1,500 kilogram warhead.
