Laoshi analysts: Knowledge of Chinese and English is a career prospect.

– Published on:

Analysts from the Chinese language learning service Laoshi conducted a survey of top executives of Russian companies on the topic of the most promising and popular languages for career development in the coming years.

According to the survey, most Russian companies (26%) learn English. In second line is the Chinese language (14%). Next come Spanish, which is known to 10% of respondents, German and French, which are spoken by 5% of respondents each.

Despite the fact that the Chinese language is only in second place in the ranking, business leaders note that it is the employees who know this language who are given priority in employment and can move up the career ladder faster. Nearly half of the respondents (47%) are even willing to raise salaries 5-20% above market for those who speak and write fluent Chinese. Officials are confident that these skills will help the team quickly find partners in China and break into international markets.

Doctor of Philology, Chairman of the Association for the Development of Sinology, Lecturer at the Russian Government Financial University, Expert of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development Alena Pavlova

“Most Chinese candidates or beginners first motivate themselves with the prospect of Chinese to find a future job. But after graduating from college, after a few months, one realizes that monetizing Chinese language knowledge does not happen by itself. And the question arises, is knowledge really a success factor? says Alena Pavlova, Ph.D.

Knowledge of Chinese alone will not provide you with a golden ticket to life, the expert is sure. The costs, both financial and time, to master the Chinese language are much higher than all Europeans. For native speakers of the Russian language, this language is objectively difficult. And here you need to realistically approach your personal level in learning Chinese, clearly know your purpose in life and why you need Chinese.

“If you want to become a translator, it’s a very high level, special skills in addition to knowing the language itself, and it will be a special way of training, not everyone has one. not need and, of course, not all Chinese learners need it. will be able to realize themselves as a translator. From this observation, after a few years, people give up, and they no longer believe in the prospects of learning the Chinese language, considering it all an overheated market. But the problem is not Chinese or marketing. We are in such a historical period where Chinese, a super rare language that can only be used in the work of a translator and a teacher, is transformed before our eyes into a useful and necessary tool for working in all fields. And now, those who can master this tool faster and better at the level necessary for their profession will be in a more advantageous position, which is why young specialists who know only Chinese find it difficult to find a job, although there are many offers, they estimate that in five years, the simple knowledge of the language has depreciated, because at the moment the market wants a professional in one sector or another, with a knowledge of Chinese at a sufficient level for a full-fledged job. Companies have to solve a variety of tasks, you can’t do it with just one language, but you can’t do without it. From a rare skill, which was valuable on its own, the Chinese language is quickly turning into a competitive advantage, a skill needed to work successfully in certain industries,” says Alena Pavlova, an expert from the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, the peace. and Development.

Thus, to interact with the outside world, knowing only one foreign language will not be enough, Chinese will bring you points and opportunities all over the world, not only in China. In itself, its study will upset your European consciousness, as if the second eye, the second ear were opened, you will understand that you have only half seen before, looked at in one plane.

“Chinese is better than a retreat, better than all the practices that will take you to new heights, open up new horizons for you, give you a real, quite tangible and confirmed advantage, enrich your inner world and, with the good application and implementation of the opportunities that open up, will enrich you quite financially, ”sums up the expert.
