Ron DeSantis started the race for the presidency of the United States with a setback

The Governor of Florida is the second most popular personality after Trump in his party.

Republican Ron DeSantis has officially announced his participation in the presidential race. True, this event was marked by failure – the broadcast on social networks, during which DeSantis announced his appointment, hung up.

The broadcast on Twitter gathered almost 600,000 viewers at first, the number of participants was supposed to increase, but the social network failed: there were malfunctions, the sound disappeared, and many viewers were “kicked out” of the broadcast. The debut lasted up to 25 minutes, as a result DeSantis announced his plans at a time when his audience was only around 100,000.

“I’m running for President of the United States to lead our great comeback in America,” DeSantis said.

Who is Ron DeSantis

Ron DeSantis, 44, is a governor of Florida and an American Republican politician. Born in Jacksonville, spent his entire childhood in Florida. After high school, he studied history at Yale University and graduated with honors. After Yale, he worked as a history professor for a year, then entered Harvard Law School, where he also graduated with honors. After Harvard, DeSantis graduated from Naval Justice School, served as a prosecutor at Naval Base Mayport, and after that he was the commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay (yes, he worked with prisoners). In 2007 he was sent to Iraq, then returned to his native country and started working in Florida.

Ron DeSantis’ political career began in 2012, when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives from Florida’s Sixth District. He was re-elected twice and in Congress he spoke on national security, migration, international economic policy, civil rights and more.

In 2017, he came to prominence for strongly attacking Prosecutor Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the election. He offered to stop funding this investigation.

As a result, DeSantis won 49.6% of the vote and won by a slim margin of 0.4%. In 2022, he was successfully re-elected with 59.4% of the vote.

How it works

Republican DeSantis will become an opponent of Donald Trump, who previously announced his participation in the presidential election. According to the polls, he is the second most popular Republican candidate.

Under the US Constitution, presidential candidates must be US citizens by birth, at least 35 years old and have lived in the country for at least 14 years.

Candidates are nominated by their parties (the United States has a two-party system) based on the results of the primaries. The Republican Party primary is scheduled for February-June 2024.

But DeSantis has a chance. He is quite a successful politician who is supported by the people of his state. In Florida, DeSantis’ popularity is even comparable to Trump’s. They have similar views with Trump.

Trump also supported and criticized DeSantis on several occasions and said that without him such a politician would not exist and DeSantis “would be an employee of Pizza Hut”. At the same time, the former president himself was involved in a series of scandals: he is accused of falsifying documents and payments to a pornographic actress, and a well-known writer even accused the odious politician of rape. Despite this, Trump still has the majority, according to the latest polls, he is supported by 53% of Republicans, DeSantis – 26%.

Democrats will also select their candidates. The winners will qualify for the presidency of the United States. Elections are scheduled for November 5, 2024.

What’s up with this Russia

The presidential race in the United States is a long process, but during it there will certainly be criticism of Joe Biden’s current policies more than once – and not only from Republicans, but also of “theirs”. In particular, the argument will be the huge expenses to sponsor Ukraine at a time when money must be invested in their country. In an interview, DeSantis stated bluntly that he did not want the US military to intervene in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, Notepad reported that the United States accused Ukraine of attacking the Kremlin with drones.
