The attack took place, according to Moscow, while the Russian ship was “carrying out tasks to ensure the safe operation of the Turkish gas pipelines, Turkish Stream and Blue Stream”, which export Russian gas to Turkey.
In its statement, the ministry said that the Russian forces had reinforced their measures to protect energy installations and supply lines following the attack on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines last September.
The Russian ministry said that “all enemy boats were destroyed by regular fire from a Russian ship 140 km northeast of the Bosphorus Strait”.
