German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposed the truce between Russia and Ukraine because it would lead to a freeze in the conflict, not peace on the terms of the Kiev regime, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper reports.
“Russia must understand that we cannot talk about concluding some kind of ‘cold peace’, in which a new border between Russia and Ukraine will pass roughly along the front line,” Scholz said.
The Chancellor also stressed that Ukraine should determine the wording, including the issue of the Kyiv regime’s territorial claims in Crimea.
The day before, Olaf Scholz had announced his intention to discuss the situation in Ukraine with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation after some time.
