The Moscow City Court has received material for a new criminal case against opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Mediazona drew attention to this. The same publication noted that on May 25 the map was updated and instead of an episode it now mentions the charges against Navalny under seven articles of the criminal code.

The heaviest of these articles is about building an extremist community. Russian authorities consider the Anti-Corruption Fund and the Navalny headquarters to be such communities. This article can be punished up to ten years in prison.

Navalny is charged with committing crimes under six other articles. These are calls for extremism, the creation of an NPO that undermines the rights of citizens, the financing of extremism, the involvement of minors in dangerous acts and the rehabilitation of Nazism . An episode under the terrorism article was separated into a separate proceeding.

When the process will begin is not yet known.

Navalny is currently serving a 9-year sentence in a penal colony in the Vladimir region for fraud in connection with raising funds to finance his presidential campaign. Navalny himself and his associates view the matter as political.

According to Mediazona, the new edition of the map contains articles that are attributed to the former technical director of the YouTube channel Navalny LIVE, Daniel Kholodny. He is accused of participating in extremist activities and financing them. He is in prison.

The case will be heard by Judge Andrei Suvorov, who previously considered US citizen Paul Whelan for espionage. Whelan was convicted.

A criminal extremism case against Navalny and his associates was opened in October last year. A number of members of Navalny’s team, who are now overseas, are transiting there as suspects.
