Wipro to be title sponsor of Bangalore Marathon

Over 20,000 runners expected to participate in the 10th edition of ‘City Run’

Bangalore. Wipro Limited, a leading technology services and consulting company, announced its partnership with NEB Sports as the title sponsor of the Bengaluru Marathon. The partnership of both will continue for three years.

The 10th edition of the marathon will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 and the runners will be required to complete it through important landmarks of the city, culminating at the Kanteerava Stadium. Over 20,000 participants from all age groups are expected to participate in the hugely popular ‘City Run’ that takes place every year. The marathon will have three categories, including Full Marathon of 42.195 kms, Half Marathon of 21.1 kms and 5K Hope Run – certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons).

NEB will organize a series of events to prepare the runners before the final event. In this, three prep runs will be conducted in the city to promote fitness, while many other activities will also be organized. There will be a special race with specially abled runners, while a training race will be conducted with visually impaired runners. Another run with the children of Sneh Care Home, the NGO partner of the Bangalore Marathon, has also been planned.

Race Director Nagaraj Adiga said, “We are excited to partner with Wipro for the 10th edition. Runner’s health and comfort has always been our priority and will continue to be so. The event is a part of every running enthusiast’s annual calendar City Run as we like to call it, the word instills a sense of pride and belonging and encourages people to participate in large numbers.”

Highlighting the importance of running, Wipro Bengaluru Marathon Brand Ambassador and Arjuna Awardee Reeth Abraham said, “It gives me immense pride and a sense of responsibility to be associated with this prestigious event. I understand the need to stay fit and healthy. I hope people come out in large numbers and encourage the runners, making it a community event rather than just a sporting event.”

Full arrangements will be made along the marathon route with aid stations, hydration points, medical facilities, ambulance services, refreshments near the finish line, etc. To keep the environment safe, plastic and paper will be used to a minimum. Such cups and plates will be used for refreshments that do not harm the environment and all participants can contribute to keeping the city clean during and after the race.
