The government’s summer program allows low-income pensioners to stay in mountain hotels and resorts around the country for 4 days / 3 nights on a full board basis. Their stay is fully supported by the state, reports the portal. BNR.bg .
The subsidized holidays will last 4 months – in June-July and September-October. The program is open to pensioners benefiting from a special low-income elderly support scheme or guaranteed minimum income.
800,000 euros have been allocated for its implementation, which will provide recreation for around 5,200 people. “We want to provide quality services to low-income pensioners who are trying to cope with the difficulties and problems of daily life and the rising cost of living,” said Minister of Social Affairs Giannis Panayiotou.
The government sees the funding given as support for domestic tourism and in particular for mountain resorts, which provide a significant number of jobs outside the cities.
