Doctor David Bichenov told under what conditions you can die from sunstroke

– Published on:

Head Physician of the Laboratory “Hemotest Caucasus” David Bichenov in an interview with “Gazeta.RU” told under what circumstances a solar gift can be fatal to a person.

According to the specialist, if you stay in the sun for a long time with your head uncovered, then the blood vessels dilate, and the blood flow to the head increases. This is a sunstroke, which in some cases can be fatal for a person.

“Heat stroke can happen even if the person is in the shade or at home. The risk increases if you engage in heavy physical labor, wear hot and restrictive clothing, drink insufficient fluids, or take medications that reduce sweating,” Bichenov explained.

He also added that signs of sunstroke can appear both during exposure to the sun and in a hot room, six to eight hours after walking in the heat. Usually such an ailment is accompanied by nosebleeds, lethargy, blurred vision, as well as tinnitus, dizziness and pallor of the skin.

In some cases, the pulse quickens, breathing is disturbed, convulsions occur. If at such moments a person is not provided with timely assistance, then he may die.

In addition, sunstroke is dangerous for people with weakened immune systems, as well as those who suffer from cardiovascular diseases, including high blood pressure, chronic heart failure, thyroid disorders and obesity.

To protect yourself from overheating, David Bichenov advises, if possible, not to be in the sun, namely from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and also to avoid stuffy rooms. Also, do not be in the sun on an empty stomach and immediately after eating.

During the heat, it is important to observe the drinking regime, giving preference to tea with lemon, kvass, fruit drink, juice or mineral water. In conclusion, the specialist said that in the summer you need to have sunscreen, as well as wear light-colored clothes made from natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen.
