Yaoundé: At least 16 people were killed and three others injured on Friday in a road accident along the Douala-Addia highway in Cameroon’s Littoral region. The country’s Transport Minister Jean Ernest Massena Nagle Bibehe gave this information on Saturday. Eyewitnesses told Xinhua that during the accident, a passenger bus was on its way to its destination when it collided with an oncoming truck. In this fierce collision, 16 people died and three others were injured. He said that children and women were also among the dead.
Bibehe told reporters at a local hospital in Edia town, “It is a sad day for our country. 16 people died in the accident. Three others were injured and the condition of one of the injured is critical.” Bibehe said it is “probable” that over-speeding led to the accident. According to Cameroon’s Ministry of Transport, 1,500 people die each year in road accidents in the Central African country.
