On the morning of June 1, Russian military correspondents and pro-military telegram channels reported an attempt to cross the border by troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Belgorod region. The Telegram channels “Two Majors” and “ZAPISKI VETERAN” reported that a battle involving a tank allegedly took place near the automobile checkpoint on the Russian-Ukrainian border in the Belgorod region.
In the publication of “Two Majors” approved that “an enemy tank (standing on the border) fires at the Shebekino checkpoint”, and also that “the battle was fought by about 20 border guards and up to 20 conscripts of the Russian Armed Forces”. It also indicates that “the dense enemy fire does not yet allow the use of anti-tank weapons”.
“Apparently the enemy is raiding our strong point at the checkpoint across the state border with no aim of capturing it,” the post’s author suggests.
Also “Two Majors” claim that the attackers’ task “is to divert forces and resources to a given sector of the front, to disperse the panic”.
“The border guards have anti-tank weapons with them this time: RPG-30 and RPG-26. <…> Tanks and helicopters came to our aid,” the message read.

At the same time, military commander Alexander Kots informed that on the night of June 1, an attempt was made to cross the border from the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of ​​​​the Belgorod village of Novaya Tavolzhanka. According to Kotz, they attempted to break through under the guise of aviation and using engineering equipment.
“There was also an attempt to enter another group of 10 people in the Shebekino area, they were blown up by a mine, they were covered in fire. This attack was repelled,” writes the military correspondent.

“According to preliminary data, saboteurs attacked the Shebekino automobile checkpoint with the help of tanks. They are being held back by border guards and Ministry of Defense fighters,” the message read.
Later, the Telegram channel added that “an active attack near the border was repelled”, and snippets of gunfire were heard near the Shebekino checkpoint.

Data on the “night breakthrough of the Ukrainian armed forces in the direction of Shebekin” does not correspond to reality, reported at the operational headquarters of the Belgorod region.
“The situation in the urban district of Shebekinsky is currently difficult, shelling is underway, sounds of battle are heard. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are working, but there is no breakthrough of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the message reads.
Later, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov also did not confirm the information about the “breakthrough of the Ukrainian Armed Forces”. According to him, “there was no enemy on the territory of the Belgorod region and there is none.”

The governor of the region indicated that as a result of the night bombardment of the region, eight people were injured, there were no deaths. “Shebekino is under constant fire: at 12 p.m., 3:40 a.m. and 5:15 a.m., the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired on the center and outskirts of the city from the Grad,” writing Gladkov.
The Ukrainian authorities did not comment on the situation at the border with the Belgorod region.
According to Gladkov, the lives of citizens living in Shebekino and surrounding villages are at risk. The head of the region added that the district and city administrations are engaged in the evacuation of the inhabitants of these settlements, but for this it is necessary to wait for the end of the bombardments.
Gladkov also noted that authorities do not publish gathering places so as not to endanger people’s lives.
“Now a fake is spreading on the network – information about collection points for the urgent evacuation of residents of the Shebekinsky district. At the moment, it is impossible and dangerous to bring people together massively at any given time,” he explained.
