Odisha: 400 injured in Balasore train accident admitted to various hospitals

There is no confirmed number of dead people in the accident.

Bhubaneswar. State Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said that around 400 people injured in the train accident near Bahanaga in Balasore district have been admitted to various hospitals. There are also reports of death of some people in the accident, but there is no confirmed number regarding the death.

He said that at present saving people is our priority. In such a situation, all arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured in Medical College, Baleshwar District Headquarters Hospital, Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital. He told that there is complete preparation in Cuttack’s SCB Medical College and Hospital and Bhubaneswar AIIMS. Along with this, all the private hospitals on this route have also been asked to keep prepared.

He said that at present 50 doctors have been sent to the accident site. 65 to 70 ambulances and 30 to 40 buses have been deployed for the injured and passengers. This campaign will continue throughout the night. It is expected that the rescue operation will be completed by morning.

The Chief Secretary said that three trains were involved in the tragic train accident that took place in Balasore district. Shalimar Coromandel Superfast Express, Duronto Express and a goods train are involved in the accident. Two passenger trains have been damaged in this.

He said that the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, Range IG Police are ready at the spot to co-ordinate and supervise the relief and rescue operations. Four teams of ODRF, three teams of NDRF and 20 teams of fire department are engaged in rescue operations. Inflatable tower lights are available in sufficient quantity so that there is no problem in rescue work at night.

President, Vice President and Prime Minister expressed grief over the train accident in

President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the Coromandel Express accident that took place near Bahanga railway station in Balasore district of Odisha on Friday.

In a tweet message, President Murmu said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the loss of lives in an unfortunate train accident in Balasore, Odisha. My condolences are with the bereaved families. I wish success in the rescue operations and speedy recovery to the injured.”

Vice President Dhankhar tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the death of people in the train accident in Balasore, Odisha. My thoughts are with the bereaved families at this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured get well soon. Spoke to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and took stock of the situation. Rescue operations are underway at the accident site and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected people.”
