Erdogan announced the names of the new cabinet members at a press conference held at the presidential palace in Cankaya, and the names who will manage the economy in the new period were also announced.

Who is Cevdet Yilmaz?

Yilmaz has experience in government positions related to development and planning projects, in addition to extensive parliamentary experience in legislation:

Born in Bingol in 1967, he graduated from the Department of Public Administration at Middle East Technical University, earned a master’s degree from the Department of International Relations at the University of Denver, USA, and earned a PhD in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilkent University in Turkey. He entered politics in the 23rd session of parliament as a deputy for Diyarbakir, then in subsequent sessions he became a deputy for Bingol, and chaired the Inter-Parliamentary Union (APB) the Turkish group, and also chaired the Planning and Budget Committee in Parliament from 2020 until the end of the previous parliamentary session. At government level, he has held several positions, including that of Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and of the General Directorate for Relations with the European Union, Minister of State, then Minister of Development for three consecutive terms, and Vice- Prime Minister.

Economic group

In addition to Jawdet Yilmaz, the new government included well-known economic names who could be counted on to revive the economy, especially with high inflation and the decline in the value of the lira against the US dollar to record lows. .

Among these names:

Muhammed Simsek has taken over the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, having previously held the post of Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the economy. Muhammad Fatih Qajar, took over the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Omar Polat, Minister of Trade. Abdulkadir Orlaoglu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, was previously Director General of Highways. Ibrahim Yumkli, Minister of Agriculture and Forests. Alp Arslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. Vedat Ishikan, Minister of Labor and Social Security.

Erdogan’s commitments

And Erdogan had previously pledged, immediately after announcing his third presidential victory, at the end of the second round of presidential elections last Sunday evening, during his speech to those celebrating the victory, to improve the economy. , to solve the problem of rising prices, and “to build a productive economy based on investment and job creation”.

The price of the Turkish lira against the dollar is close to historic lows at 20.07 lira per dollar. As for inflation, it reached 44% last April, after recording record highs in October 2022 at 85.5%, according to the Turkish Institute of Statistics.

Meanwhile, a World Bank report released in April projected that Turkey’s economy would grow by 3.2% in 2023, instead of previous expectations of just 2.7% growth.


The bank also raised its expectation for the growth of the Turkish economy for the year 2024 to 4.3% instead of 4% in the past, and expects a rate of 4.1% for the year. 2025.
